A new think tank known as Denkfabrik was officially opened at Magdeburg Science Port on December 27, 2007 in the presence of Mayor Dr. Lutz Trümper and Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister for Economic Affairs and Labor, Dr. Rainer Haseloff.

Located on the River Elbe in the center of the state capital of Magdeburg and in the direct vicinity of the university and other scientific institutes, an area in the historical commercial port has been earmarked for urban redevelopment. A vibrant district is to take shape on the banks of the River Elbe in the port which will be turned into a center for innovation and knowledge transfer with additional areas used for housing, amenities, hospitality, leisure and tourism. Indeed, the infrastructure in the port’s southern part has already been developed. The future Science Port will become home to new innovative businesses and research institutions.
